I take a directorial approach and feel like my approach is often cinematic. I like putting the viewer outside of a space to consider the potential of what’s inside and how the environment influences its inhabitants. With each painting I’m building this world that I live in and a lot of my influences come from the jobs that I’ve had as a bartender and an estate worker. I’m always thinking about critters or animals that you’re trying to keep out of spaces. Snakes entering in to building - I’m terrified of snakes. Wilderness coming inside. How you keep that space maintained? I want to let you watch by giving you a window in to that space.
