Marian Bailey - I saved a boy from drowning once. I wonder if he thinks about me.

ma

At the heart of Marian Bailey’s newest exhibition is a meditation on the complexities surrounding Black experiences with water, including historical barriers to access and generational narratives of exclusion. Yet rather than dwell in absence, the work reclaims water as a joyful and liberating force through a celebration of buoyancy, Black joy, and the restorative power of nature. Visitors are encouraged to reflect on their own relationship to water and the small, sacred moments where they feel most free.

Shades of blue pulse throughout the richly illustrated works on paper, evoking the hypnotic, immersive calm of a bath, a river, or a daydream. The accompanying ceramic installation extends these themes into three-dimensional space.
